Today Ancestry.com Marks Lincoln Bicentennial With Launch of Five New Databases Featuring Millions of New Civil War Era Records. They go on to say that the new databases include more than 4 million new records. The five new databases include:
- Abraham Lincoln Papers
- New Orleans Slave Manifests, 1807-1860
- Confederate Pension Applications from Georgia
- Confederate Applications for Presidential Pardons
- U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles
The Full press release can be viewed here. You can access the new database by going here.
For me, most of the databases will not be of any use (yet), but the last database, the U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles database may have some useful info in it for me. I have not taken the time to look yet, but I will get to it.
I am not a huge Civil War Buff, but I did have at least one ancestor that did fight in the Civil War, Robert Towler. Enlisted in Kentucky, and his widow applied for a pension in Indiana. With the Toler / Towler surname having roots in Virginia, I am sure that there will be plenty of Toler/Towler's in the database, many on both sides of the conflict.
I am interested to see what it may turn up! I will keep you posted.
