Its Valentine's Day weekend (is there such a thing??).  I Figured that I would do a little bit on my ancestor named Valentine Cox (or sometimes seen as Coxe).  Valentine Cox is my 6x Great Grandfather.  Valentine is the son of Henry Cox, and husband to Nancy Ann Dawson, and father to Judith Cox.  My connection to Valentine is as follows:

Me -> My Father -> My Grandfather-> John Henry Towler -> Caleb Preston Towler -> Robert Towler -> Nancy Tinsley -> Judith Cox -> Valentine Cox.

Valentine Cox is recognized by the DAR as a patriot, rendering goods and supplies to the troops during the Revolution.  He was born about 1750, in Virginia, and died around 1812 in Virginia.

Recently the Cox Family graveyard has been found, and efforts are underway to determine those that are buried there, as well as a restoration of the site.  The Local Virginia DAR chapter is leading the way, but has received funding from the Virginia State DAR as well as others.  There was a news story that ran on Local television channel (WSET) and you can view that piece Here.

If you can not get the video to play above, the story is also posted here: http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0209/592620.html

The plan now is that there will be a dedication / re-dedication ceremony for the site sometime in 2010.  I am planning on attending as an ancestor, and will be sure to provide pictures.

Visited his grave today

Submitted by Otakop (not verified) on Sun, 08/14/2011 - 17:17

Today I visited his grave as part of a Geocaching expedition. I've included a photo I took today of his grave. The cache nearby is in his honor and is named 'Almost Gone and Forgotten' and is one of a series to encourage people to explore and remember our history. His is the only grave there with any writing on the stone, The headstone says he died December 27th, 1813. Hope this info is of some help in your research.
