Every year I set a few goals for the year, and often time, goals about my family tree are in the works.  In the past I have been more concerned about "growing" the tree based on the number of individuals alone, but this year I am also looking to improve the "Quality" of the tree, by increasing the number and use of sources in the tree.  Previously, it was easy to discern if I had met my goal, just record the number of Individuals that I had before the year started, and compare to the number I have at the end of the year.  This year, I will be looking at more than just the number of individuals that are added, so I need to record more data at the start of the year.  This post is intended to do that.  With that said lets get started.

Here come the numbers, as of 08 January 2011 I have:

  • 2858 Individuals in the tree
    • 1291 are Male
    • 1260 are Female
    • 34 have no gender assigned...
  • 548 Different Surnames
    • Toler, Towler, Toller are all counted as separate
  • 818 Family Units
  • 557 Media Objects (Think pictures, PDF's, etc.)
  • 52 Sources
    • 1352 Individuals with sources
    • 212 Families with sources
  • 671 different locations recorded

I will also be keeping track of how many "edits" were made to the tree throughout the year.  I can do all of this because of the online family tree software that I use.  It allows me to keep track of all of these things with relative ease.  I know I have more sources that I can add, its just a matter of getting the time to get it done.  Well there you have it, the baseline numbers for my family tree as it stands at the start of 2012.  Lets see what happens!
